Born in Bowie, Texas in 1889, Arthur William Hall was a master etcher and painter who studied at the Art Institute of Chicago before serving in WWI. After the war, he refined his skills in Europe under renowned artists, particularly in printmaking and etching, but was also extremely gifted in drawing and watercolor. He and his wife, artist Norma Bassett Hall, eventually settled in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where they became key figures in the local art community and operated a summer art school near Alcalde. Hall was a founding member of the Prairie Printmaker Society and belonged to numerous prestigious printmaking organizations. His work, celebrated for its purity of line and technical mastery, earned national and international acclaim through exhibitions and awards. Later in life, he focused exclusively on watercolor until his death in 1981 at age 91.
