Coy Avon ("C.A.") Seward was a Kansas-born American printmaker and arts advocate who helped shape Wichita's early art community while producing finely designed woodcuts, lithographs, and other prints. Born in Chase, Kansas, he studied commercial design at Washburn University and painting with Birger Sandzén at Bethany College before building a career that bridged fine art and commercial printing. He ultimately served as art-department head at Wichita firms including Western Lithograph. Deeply involved in building regional arts infrastructure, he organized exhibitions, wrote and taught, and helped found groups such as the Wichita Artists' Guild, the Wichita Art Association, and the Wichita Art Museum itself. A founding member and key organizer of the Prairie Print Makers, Seward also produced instructional guides and mentored fellow artists, extending his influence well beyond Kansas. His principal imagery drew on both the Kansas plains and the deserts and mountains of New Mexico, reflecting his connection to the Southwest's landscapes and art colonies.
