  • Provenance: Private Collection, New Mexico

The Journal of Contemporary Photography unites hand-pulled photogravures by many of today's most esteemed photographers—each plate made by Jon Goodman, a modern master of the process—with incisive criticism, poetry, and fiction by celebrated writers. Echoing the ambition of Stieglitz's Camera Work, the series marries luminous image-making with rigorous letters to create an uncommon dialogue between the visual and the literary. Under John Wood's editorship, every volume is thoughtfully conceived and exquisitely produced.
Volume IV, entitled The Gardens of DeCosse, focuses exclusively on the beautiful works of Cy DeCosse. His elegant compositions range from the quiet of morning light falling on freshly picked vegetables to the riotous energy of flowers in full bloom. Literary contributors include fiction writer Scott Ely; former gallery director John Stevenson; poet Susan Ludvigson; musician and scholar Carol Wood; and editor John Wood.
