"WWII Fighters" is a departure from Brett's typical subject matter of Native American life, yet it remains deeply connected to her understanding of spiritual forces. Painted in 1943 during World War II, this piece reflects the turbulence of the time, where the abstracted forms of the planes and the inclusion of glass fragments suggest both the destruction and fragility of the world at war. Despite the modern subject, Brett's symbolic approach prevails, reminding viewers of the broader spiritual and existential questions that underpinned her entire body of work.
  • Condition: This work is in very good condition overall.
There are a few, scattered instances of minor glass fragments not being present.
Please note the artwork has not been examined out of the frame, but the entire sheet is visible, under plexiglass UV glazing.
