Dr. Raymond Adrian Raskin, a psychiatrist, psychoanalyst, and artist, died at age 95 in New York City on April 8, 2017. Known for his intellect, humor, warmth, and deep compassion, he was devoted to his patients and admired for his clinical excellence. A training and supervising analyst at Columbia University's Psychoanalytic Center and an attending psychiatrist at Harlem Hospital Center, he taught and mentored for nearly four decades. As Chair of the Social Issues Committee of the American Psychoanalytic Association, he was a tireless advocate for social justice. A U.S. Naval Reserve Lieutenant in his youth, he traveled the world serving as M.D. to eight destroyers. Ray was also a gifted artist, inspired by the Southwest and especially Santa Fe, where he created turquoise and silver jewelry, small gold statues, and large steel sculptures. Though galleries encouraged him to pursue art full-time, he remained devoted to his psychiatric practice.

The condition reports for the lots offered by Santa Fe Art Auction (SFAA) are provided as a courtesy and convenience for potential buyers. The reports are not intended to nor do they substitute for physical examination by a buyer or the buyer's advisors. The condition reports are prepared by SFAA staff members who are not art conservators or restorers, nor do they possess the qualifications needed for comprehensive evaluation. Each condition report is an opinion of the staff member and should not be treated as a statement of fact. The absence of a condition report does not imply anything as to the condition of a particular lot. Buyers are reminded that the limited warranties are set forth in the Terms and Conditions of Sale and do not extend to condition. Each lot is sold as-is.
