Ernest Martin Hennings was a Chicago-trained painter who became a leading member of the Taos Society of Artists. Born in Penns Grove, New Jersey and raised in Chicago, he studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and later at the Academy of Fine Arts, Munich. He first visited Taos in 1917 at the urging of Chicago patron Carter H. Harrison, moved there permanently in 1921, and was elected to the Taos Society in 1924. Hennings is known for radiant, decorative compositions of Taos Pueblo people and New Mexico landscapes, a focus that earned him numerous national prizes in the 1910s–30s. His paintings are held by major museums including the Smithsonian, Denver Art Museum, and others.
  • Condition: This print is in very good condition overall. Along the outer margins of the visible area there is evidence of minor toning of the sheet, likely from light exposure. Please note that the work has not been examined out of the frame. Overall, it is a finely rendered example that highlights Hennings' delicate line work and sensitivity to light and atmosphere, qualities that reflect his deep appreciation for the natural beauty of the Southwest and his connection to the Taos Society of Artists.
