Little Wound, born c. 1830–35, died winter 1899, was a prominent Oglala Lakota chief of the Kiyuksa (Bear People). A son of Bull Bear, he became leader of the Kuinyan/Kiyuksa branch after his brother Bull Bear II was killed in 1865. He figured in intertribal warfare—most notably helping lead Sioux forces at Massacre Canyon in 1873—and later represented his people on multiple Washington, D.C., delegations in the 1870s–80s. By 1890 he supported the Ghost Dance but urged peace once troops appeared at Pine Ridge. He is commemorated today by Little Wound School in Kyle, South Dakota.
