Harold Gregor (American, 1929–2018) was a celebrated Midwestern painter known for his bold and inventive depictions of the Illinois landscape. Initially trained during the abstract expressionist era, Gregor gained national attention in the 1970s for his photorealist Corn Crib series, later transitioning to his renowned Flatscapes, which focused on the patterns of cultivated farmland from an aerial perspective. "Flatscape #7" (1975) exemplifies this shift, showcasing a vibrant, quilt-like composition of fields and buildings, rendered in rich, non-naturalistic colors.

Gregor's work is held in major public collections, including the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; Art Institute of Chicago; Figge Art Museum in Davenport, IA; Denver Art Museum; Columbia Museum of Art, South Carolina; Illinois State Museum, Springfield, IL; Nelson Gallery of Art, Kansas City; Rockford Art Museum, Rockford, IL and others. It also was acquired by Dartmouth College; California College of Arts and Crafts; College of Guam; Syracuse University; University of Georgia, Athens; and University of Oregon, Eugene, among others.
