Harold Harrington Betts (1881–1951) was an American artist celebrated for his depictions of the Southwest, particularly its landscapes and Native cultures. "Navajo Traders" exemplifies Betts' focus on the intersection of cultures in the American frontier, capturing a moment of exchange between the Navajo people and traders. His detailed rendering of the figures, along with his masterful use of light and color, brings to life the stark beauty of the desert landscape and the dignity of the Navajo people. Betts, who often visited the Hubbell Trading Post in Arizona, was deeply inspired by the region's people and environment, making his work both artistically significant and culturally resonant.
