  • Provenance: Private Collection, California

Tewa Enterprises was a Santa Fe–based fine-art silkscreen publisher founded in 1951 by Navajo painter Harrison Begay and printer Charles Barrows. It specialized in hand-pulled serigraphs after paintings by Begay and other Native artists, such as Gerald Nailor, Allan Houser, and J.D. Roybal, producing editions for the Southwestern tourist and hotel trade, including La Fonda in Santa Fe. Using multiple screens and high-quality papers, Tewa helped popularize mid-century Navajo and Pueblo imagery. While Tewa is no longer active, its prints and some of the original paintings from the Tewa archive are now collectible on the secondary market and held in museum collections.
