Jesus of Nazareth. Large hand-carved figure with articulated shoulders and flexible elbows. Body is carved, prepared with gesso and painted with native pigments. Strongly carved facial features, carved hair near neck, crown of thorns rests on his head. Articulated arms are attached with rope through holes in upper body and elbows are attached to forearms with cloth welds, well carved pectorals, hands and feet. The loincloth is formed of gessoed cloth and painted blue and yellow. The figure is held in place with four wooden supports attached to wooden base. The figure was used extensively in processions and much wear is noted as well as additional painted areas through decades: blood trails, stigmata.
