  • Provenance: Private Collection, Florida

    Notes:
This early work by Joseph Henry Sharp captures a tranquil Northern European scene, likely created during his travels through Ireland, Holland, Belgium, and France in 1896. Rendered with Sharp's characteristic sensitivity to atmosphere and light, the painting hints at the quiet lyricism that would later define his celebrated landscapes of the American West. Though best known as the "father of the Taos Art Colony," Sharp's European studies deeply informed his mastery of tone and composition, as seen in this intimate and evocative painting.
  • Condition: This work is in good to very good condition overall. There are scattered, areas of inpainting visible along the upper and right margins. A historic repair is present on the verso to stabilize a fissure in the board. The fissure is subtly visible on the front, discernible upon close inspection. Repair to frame at lower left corner. Has been examined under blacklight.

The condition reports for the lots offered by Santa Fe Art Auction (SFAA) are provided as a courtesy and convenience for potential buyers. The condition reports are prepared by SFAA staff members who are not art conservators or restorers, nor do they possess the qualifications needed for comprehensive evaluation. Each condition report is an opinion of the staff member and should not be treated as a statement of fact.
