Born in Lodge Grass, Montana, Kevin Red Star is a member of the Crow Tribe and has dedicated his artistic career to portraying the rich heritage of his people. His work is characterized by bold colors, dynamic compositions, and intricate patterns, often depicting traditional Crow attire, ceremonies, and landscapes. The Black Bird Medicine Hat is used to invoke spiritual guidance, healing, and protection. A Holy Man wearing this hat during ceremonies serves as a mediator between the community and spirit world.

Kevin Red Star received formal training at the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles and has exhibited extensively across the United States and internationally, with works held in prominent collections such as the Smithsonian Institution, the Denver Art Museum, and the National Museum of the American Indian.
